 Origin

Before its current name, Lavington, which was named by the British colonials, the estate was known as St Austin’s Mission had been surrounded by coffee plantations, unlike the gorgeous estates that are in the hood today.

Geographical Location

Lavington is a suburb in Nairobi, located exactly 5km northwest of the City Center. Popularly known for its upscale apartment buildings, the international foreign embassies, international schools, prestigious hotels, bars and restaurants, shopping malls and parks.

Matatu routes

Matatus and buses heading to the Lavington neighbourhood are boarded at the Odeon Cinema Stage, popularly known as the Odeon Stage, near Savani’s and next to the Village Market Stage.

 The matatus and buses are numbers 48A and 48B. These vehicles ply the Chiromo, Kileleshwa, Lavington, Riverside and Strathmore routes.

The cost of booking accommodations in Lavington depends on the date, rate, number of guests, and the luxury of the apartments you wish to book. 

The average cost of booking accommodation in Lavington can go up to 5000 Kenyan shillings per night and others can go up to as high as 70,000 shillings per night. 

Some can even be booked at a much higher amount than this, depending on the apartments you wish to live in. Similarly to that, there are prestigious apartments that are up for sale, some going to as low as 21.5M shillings and others going up to 150M shillings.

The block comprises of well-balanced population structure and composition. In a population census conducted in 2016, it was brought to light that the median age of the males and females in Lavington is an averagely of 40 years.

The total population size of the parish was 12,472. 48.2% of the population are males and the remaining 51.8% of the population are females. 

There are 3,122 families living in the neighbourhood. There is an average of about two children in each family.

There is a modernized prestigious lifestyle in the area, with all residential apartments being private dwellings. Per household, there is an average of 3 people per household.

 In addition, the government has also tightened security by installing police posts near the estates. The nearest police posts found near the area include The Kileleshwa Police Station, Muthangari Police Station and Lavington Police Post.
